The Story of Strange Creek

The story and inspiration of Strange Creek goes something like this...

A surveyor named William Strange got lost in a place called Turkey Creek, West Virginia in 1795. They found his skeletal remains many years later. It appears that before he died of exposure and starvation he carved this message into a Beech tree:

"Strange is my name and I'm on strange ground, and strange it is that I cannot be found"

After that they renamed Turkey Creek to Strange Creek.

The story is true. It has been told and retold in my family for over 200 years.
